About Sequoia Psychology
Sequoia Psychology is led by Dr. Victoria Parlane (BSc Hons, MSc, BPS Chartered Psychologist). As a Registered Health Psychologist who is Chartered with the BPS, Dr Victoria has undertaken a minimum of six years training and specialised in health psychology for a minimum of three years.  

Dr Victoria (Vicki) is a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)* Registered Practitioner Health Psychologist and Acceptance & Commitment Therapist.

She has over 15 years’ experience working with individuals struggling with a range of problems.

Working with Families and Children: Dr Victoria’s earlier career was dedicated to working with children and families both in the UK and Internationally.  Where she offered practical skills to help manage stressful common problems and promote harmony in the household.    

Independent Psychological Health Practice: As an independent practitioner psychologist, Dr Victoria established Sequoia Psychology in Berkshire in 2015, expanding to Shropshire in 2016. 

As a Health Psychologist, Dr Victoria undertakes specialist assessments to understand an individuals health beliefs.  She also provides a number of health behaviour change techniques, e.g setting meaningful goals and action planning to help you reach your goal.

She has a special interest in the following areas:

  • Psychological health and well-being
  • Long-term health condition management
  • Pain management
  • Stress management
  • Promoting healthy behaviour and lifestyle issues.

Positive Interventions in Real Lives: Dr Victoria has experience in service development. She has designed, delivered and evaluated time and cost-effective behaviour-change interventions, which successfully supported people with Long-Term Conditions (LTCs) return to work-related activities.  

Teaching and Training: As a Guest Lecturer, Dr Victoria’s work includes teaching University Students’ in emotional management of long-term health conditions and teaching coping skills to assist them to handle their own emotions more effectively.

Additionally, Dr Victoria provides training for healthcare professionals to help them and their clients deal more effectively with illnesses, such as, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. 

The Sequoia Psychology Way
We apply the tenets of ‘third wave’ Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,  specifically, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dr Victoria is a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science (ACBS). 

Having used the principles to overcome her own struggles with stress and living with a Long-Term Condition provides a successful framework to work with you.

Applying successful health psychology models in combination with mindfulness, compassion and acceptance-based approaches, helps to manage uncomfortable thoughts and feelings so they have less impact and influence over you in a negative way.

For example, mindfulness techniques help to focus in the present moment; sometimes people are so distracted or worried that they aren’t present enough to follow through with what’s important to them

“Overall,” Dr Victoria says, “the approach I take is a very active form – not just talking about problems. You and I, as a team, will work together to ensure a behaviour change that will take you in the direction you want to go.”

*As a Health Psychologist Dr Victoria Parlane is registered with the HCPC, which checks that the way she works is safe and effective, including things like:

  • Making sure she has the right training to use the title
  • Keeping her work confidential
  • Continuing professional development to keep her skills updated

  • Having a complaints system
